COVID-19 Masks 3-D Printed for Medical Use
NGS assembled a team to print 3D masks to protect frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The N95 mask design was from an open-source which was supplemented with materials that could be sourced from a hospital setting to create the mask filtration and straps. The first batch was sent to a team of 30 hospice workers in Nashville, TN. Since then the design has been adopted by The Biz Foundry in Cookeville, TN where multiple printers are operating to supply this critical PPE to frontline workers throughout the Upper Cumberland Region.
Our President, Kandi Brown, who has been involved in the design, production, and distribution of the masks says, “It has been a joy to support these heroes. Working with a team of environmental scientists and nurses, we were able to take commonly available items, such as, vacuum cleaner bags, baby blankets, and CPAP straps, and assemble highly-effective, life-saving masks which can be disinfected and reused. I wish no one needed them, but I am grateful we were able to make them for the people who do.”
